CANON HISTORY: Prompto@FinalFantasyWiki
CANON PERSONALITY: Meeting Prompto, it's very clear that he has a lot of energy. He tends to be smiling, and he can't sit still for very long. He's either fidgeting, bouncing around to whatever song is running through his mind at any given moment or messing around on his phone, even stuttering sometimes when he's overly excited or anxious. He's a playful, silly nerd that has embraced his friend's weird penchant for puns and purposefully groan worthy jokes. He's a fan of video games, but photography has always been his passion. At times he can be a bit cavalier about it, going out of his way and sometimes putting himself (and others) in danger just to get the perfect shot.

He is also a very kind and caring man. He has a strong affinity for animals, chocobos being his absolute favorite. If he finds an injured animal, he'll do what he can to help it. Prompto is the sort that's more willing to crash the king's car then hit an animal on the road, which is something that's he's actually done.

This kindness doesn't stop at animals. He worries a lot about the young boy, Talcott, who lost his whole family to the Empire's attack, and was gungho about finding the little cactuar figurines he wanted. When one of his closest friends was badly injured, Prompto was the one who stayed at his side, helping him walk and guiding him around, trying his best to protect him from danger.

Sadly, there is a big difference between what's going on inside of Prompto's head than what he tries to portray to others. Not to say that any of it is a lie, per se. He is every bit of the kind-hearted, goofy person that he puts forth, but hidden beneath all that is a deeper thinker than anyone gives him credit for.

The 'act' that he feels he's putting on is one of confidence, pretending like he belongs with his friends when he fears he honestly doesn't.

Due to severe neglect as a child, it took a long time for Prompto to figure out how to connect with other people in a meaningful way. His parents were rarely ever home, and he admits that he doesn't know them well. Like any child in that situation, he went through life trying to earn their attention and praise, but never seemed to get it. There is a barcode tattooed on his right wrist that they would never explain, leaving him to wonder if there was something wrong with him. He was very clearly depressed, and would overeat as a result, so he was quite overweight.

After helping her injured puppy, Lunafreya, the young oracle, sends him a letter praising his compassion, and asks him to befriend Prince Noctis because he's lonely. His first attempt ends with him tripping, and when the prince helps him up he makes a side comment about Prompto being heavy to lift. It wasn't meant to be mean or scathing, but it hit Prompto hard.

Being the overweight kid with severe social anxiety and a camera, it's more than likely he went through his fair share of bullying, but from then on he became determined to change himself. He takes up running to lose weight, but it's more than that. There were a lot of things he hated, so he tried to reinvent who he is. He runs into Noctis again a few times, but calmly freaks out and simply turns and walks away. It's not until years later that he finally has the courage to try to talk to Noctis again, even pretending it was the first time they met, not thinking that Noctis would actually remember him.

All he'd ever wanted was a friend, but no one ever seemed to want him back. Once he becomes friends with Noctis, and through him Gladio and Ignis, his anxiety ramps up and he lives everyday in fear of them discovering that he's not actually good enough and he'll get left behind. His fear of losing them pushes him to join the Crownsguard after graduating high school, which is a special military unit designed to protect the royal family.

He's constantly trying to prove himself, but being friends with nobility takes it's toll on him as he can't help but constantly compare himself to this idea of his friends being so much better than he is. Noctis is the prince, perhaps not the most regal of princes but still a prince who lives in a way Prompto could never fathom. Gladiolus is physically unto a god and amazing when it comes to interacting with people, while Prompto continues to struggle with anything outside of simple pleasantries. Ignis is genius levels of intelligence and can cook food that most people would literally die for, while he struggles to simply focus for extended periods of time.

One slip up and he's terrified they'll realize he's not actually good enough to be their friend. They've never given him any reason to believe that, so it's an entirely irrational fear stemming from his childhood. For a long time it's something he honestly believes it could happen, not realizing that it's actually an insult to the the type of people his friends actually are.

As a result he can be extremely hard on himself, and will push himself to keep up with the others, even though he had a fraction of the training they did. He's claustrophobic, yet he followed them into caves and dungeons, over and over again, and no matter how terrified he got, he never slowed them down if he could help it. His anxiety is very clearly present, even one of his idle animations is him wandering off to have what appears to be a panic attack.

After being separated from the others, he does eventually find out what the barcode means. He is the clone of Research Chief Verstael Besithia of Niflheim, who had developed a method to mass produce magitek infantry by binding demonic essences to the human soul. Prompto had been designed to be turned into a demon and weaponized, but had been stolen from the facility as an infant.

Learning this breaks him a bit, as though every fear he'd ever had came crashing down on him all at once. He end sup going through a mental breakdown/vision quest sort of situation where he's forced to face everything and see it for what it really is. He far from okay once it's all over, but he has a lot firmer ground to stand on and a more honest faith in his friends.

It's that faith that helps him when he's captured and tortured by Niflheim, telling Noctis once he's rescued that he believed he would come, so he couldn't let himself die. It still comes as a surprise that they accept him, even after explaining what he is. It solidifies that new found strength he'd been fighting to hold on to.

POINT OF DEPARTURE: --
VETERAN?:--
ABILITIES:
•photography - besides taking some stunning pictures of his friends and the places they've been.

•firearms - he is proficient in wielding guns of all sorts. He's weapons of choice are handguns, but he's used everything from sniper rifles to bazookas.

•machinery - some of his weapons are oversized hunks of machinery that can do various things in battle. While it's unknown it he's able to build the things himself, he can perform maintenance on them and has been shown to be able to figure out how to work/sabotage machines and magitek with little trouble.

•infiltration skills(?) - not really sure what to call this. he's able to sneak around relatively undetected, perform stealth assassinations and steal weapons off enemies, dig around in computers, etc.

•power of kings - fueled by his friend Noctis, he's able to store all of his weapons and tech in a personal hammerspace-esque armory where he can summon whatever weapon he wants to use at any given time. This also allows for certain skills/attacks to be enchanted.

INVENTORY: various handguns, audax blade, 2 cameras with straps, SD cards, lens filters, his Crownsguard uniform, clothing mounted flashlight, smart phone, chocobo whistle, glasses

ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? The Power of Kings is not going to work at all for him because it's not his own power, but something granted by and fueled by the king of Lucis. Being cut off from Noctis entirely, that power will cut off too. Since it's not his own ability I don't know if it would even translate into hammerspace, just lock down entirely, or have everything explode everywhere (obvs i'm not expecting him to be able to keep all that, but the thought of it suddenly raining handguns is hilarious).

M A R K S;
JUSTIFICATION:
Fool - He is pretty much the posterboy for the fool in a lot of ways. He's reckless and inexperienced. He'd received minor training before heading off on his journey so everything he's learned he'd picked up along the way. Every Word in that archetype describes Prompto.

Death - He has gone through a number of drastic personal changes in his life, from losing a ton of weight (eliminating old patterns), to going from the shy kid that couldn't connect with people to the goofy jokester (deep change), even learning about where he came from changed how he looked at himself and his life (transition to a new state). Deep down he is generally very sad, and gets stuck in cycles of negative thoughts that he's never really been able to let go of (Being caught in the inescapable).

Sun - Despite his inner turmoil, he's not a dark person and a lot of the descriptors in this archetype describe how he interacts with other people. He tries very hard to make other people smile and he tends to have an overabundance of energy and enthusiasm. He definitely shines when he's in his element.
